I designed and built two custom props for a series of commercials produced by a software company. Both projects focused on creating visually striking, functional pieces that fit the creative direction of the ads.
Distract-o-tron Robot Costume
For the first commercial, I created the Distract-o-tron, a 60s sci-fi inspired robot costume:
- Designed with a retro, low-budget aesthetic, similar to classic TV robots
- Constructed primarily from EVA foam and various salvaged parts
- Included working lights and motorized “ears” that moved during filming to bring the character to life
One-Man Band Rig
For the second commercial, I built a fully functional one-man band setup:
- Each instrument or component was salvaged from thrift stores and carefully pieced together
- Control lines and mechanisms were routed around the rig so that the actor could actually play the setup on camera
- Emphasis was on functionality as well as a fun, cobbled-together look that fit the tone of the commercial
